5 Reasons You Should Practice Self-Care

Whether it is family, friends, work, or another social group, it is very easy to put ourselves on the back burner and make everyone else a priority. It could be because we are taught from a young age to not be selfish and to put others before us. While this is true to an extent, there is a fine line between putting others first and completely neglecting yourself. It is not wrong to put yourself first every now and then, because if you cannot take care of yourself how can you possibly take care of someone else? If you don’t put yourself first occasionally then you may find yourself burned out, exhausted, and no longer enjoying life.

Self-care is a very important factor in health and nutrition because if you overexert yourself you may be more likely to make poor nutrition and exercise choices. When you’re always on the go tending to others it is easy to just stop and grab a quick burger and fries and not workout because you have been going full force since 5AM.

Here are 5 reasons you should start practicing self-care today:

  1. Increased Productivity. When you start putting yourself first and start saying “no” a little more often, you will find that you are able to make more time for the things that matter most.

  2. Decreased Illness. Not making enough time to give yourself a break and recoup takes a toll on your immune system and you may find yourself sick more often. When you take care of yourself by eating a balanced diet, exercising, and getting enough sleep, you may find yourself not getting sick as often.

  3. Improved Physical Health. When you start making more time for yourself you may find that you are able to become physically active more often. By being able to exercise more often, you will begin to have more energy to tackle your projects.

  4. Confidence Boost. Finding more time to spend taking care of yourself will open up a whole new self-image. You may find those negative thoughts turning into positive thoughts which will go a long way improving your self-confidence.

  5. More to Give. When you treat yourself kindly you are given the confidence and energy to give more to others.

If you have not done so already and would like monthly self-care lifestyle calendars, leave your email address in the information box at the bottom of this page.
